Parquet floors, while kind of old school, have made a comeback recently and can make a statement with their distinct geometric design.

If you’re going for boards, you’ll have to decide if you want narrow (<3 inches) or much wider planks (more than three inches).

Squares and rectangles are less popular but a cool and unique look.

Another important consideration – deciding between solid or engineered wood. Solid wood is milled from a single piece of wood and will last for decades. Humidity is the enemy. Engineered hard wood is created by bonding layers of hardwood that can withstand higher levels of humidity because of the cross-grain construction. The layers give it greater stability. It does not require a subfloor – it can ‘float’ and be stapled or glued.
